Sundin A Canuck

December 19th, 2008

Well, there you go! A final twist to the saga; Sundin opted to go against the bookies and select Vancouver as his next Hockey destination. The Canucks will surely be delighted and suddenly see themselves thrown into the playoff picture as an outsider with a real chance of contending for Lord Stanley. Expectations will surely skyrocket…

They have made an excellent acquisition and Sundin should fit well in to the fold. Especially considering there are already several fellow Swedes starring in Vancouver.

Maybe his stellar career will also have one final twist. Having never won the Stanley Cup surely this must be his greatest challenge yet…

I was surprised to learn Sundin chose to remain in Canada; it is still the same hockey culture – one I thought he was looking forward to moving away from to a certain extent.

With that said, I would have probably made the same choice in Mats Sundin’s shoes, seeing as this is a career opportunity, like you said, to perhaps finally win a Stanley Cup (and fatten that pocket while you’re at it, I mean, that is an incredible paycheck there!).

As you have mentioned in your previous article, as a Florida Panthers fan, I’m VERY happy with Sundin’s choice. It would have been a blow too hard for the Panthers in the long run, and one I would prefer missing out on ;-)

On the other hand, my heart is with Rangers, and so part of me is sad to see this opportunity pass.

All in all, I wish Sundin good luck and hope that he can carry the Canucks to the play offs!!

Indeed, I’m very happy with his choice also. With a paycheck like that I would have chosen it too. Hockeywise they are two similar teams, both with a chance to challenge in the playoffs if they qualify.

In a Panther perspective it certainly is great news!!
