Done Deals

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Florida

Panthers

Steve Eminger (D)

Tampa Bay

Noah Welch (D)

+

3rd Rnd Pick

One defender for another… We’ll see if Eminger gets to play a bit more than Welch. Is probably a good trade if the coach has more confidence in Steve – than obviously was the case with perennial bench warmer Noah. Makes you wonder where he’ll fit in though? We already have six good defenders…

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Toronto

Olaf Kolzig (G), Jamie Heward, Andy Rogers and 4th Rnd Pick

Tampa Bay

Richard Petiot

Looks like Toronto will help out the Bolts with their salary…

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Edmonton

Ales Kotalik (F)

Buffalo

2nd Rnd Pick

Edmonton pulled off a couple of late deals and must be happy in getting two potentially great players in Kotalik and Sullivan.

Team B
Acquired

Carolina

Eric Cole (F)

+

5th Rnd Pick

Edmonton

Patrick O’Sullivan (F)

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Carolina

Patrick O’Sullivan (F)

+

2nd Rnd Pick

Los Angeles

Justin Williams

Carolina get their first native (born in North Carolina) Carolinian on the roster. He could be a steal, hasn’t quite worked out in LA, but could be a revelation in Raleigh.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

San Jose

Travis Moen (F) and Kent Huskins (D)

Anaheim

Nick Bonnino (F) and Tim Pielmeier (G) + Conditional Draft Pick

This may explain the strange McLaren trade. With Moen San Jose get a proven champion that can help them over the edge in that quest for the Cup.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Chicago

Samuel Påhlsson (F)

Anaheim

James Wisniewsky (D)

+

Undisclosed Pick or Prospect

I think Chicago made a steal here! Påhlsson may have an expiring contract, but he’s avery good player that can add grit, experience and determination to the Hawks in the playoffs.

Team A

Team B

Philadelphia

Kyle McLaren (D)

San Jose

6th Rnd Pick

Strange trade as San Jose lose depth – for a 6th round pick…

Team A

Team B

Columbus

Kevin Lalande (G)

Calgary

4th Rnd Pick

Columbus needed a back-up for Mason after trading away Leclaire earlier today.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Anaheim

Erik Christensen (F)

Atlanta

Eric O’Dell (F)

Slightly surprising trade, thought Atlanta would be more active than this minor trade.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Buffalo

Dominic Moore (F)

Toronto

2nd Rnd Pick

Toronto couldn’t wait to get rid of Dominic and Buffalo needed some help. So, it is a trade that makes sense, but will it make the Sabres much better?

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

NY Rangers

Derek Morris (D)

Phoenix

Dmitri Kalinin (D), Nigel Dawes (F) and Petr Prucha (F)

Wow! This is a huge deal for the Rangers. They get a great defender but give up an awful lot! All three are good players and this could be a good deal for both sides.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

NY Rangers

Nik Antropov (F)

Toronto

2nd Rnd Pick

+ Conditional Pick

Looks like Burke finally got rid of Antropov…

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Philadelphia

Dan Carcillo (F)

Phoenix

Scotty Upshall (F)

+ 2nd Rnd Pick

Strange deal, it seems like the Flyers have overpaid for Carcillo.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Pittsburgh

Bill Guerin

NY Islanders

Conditional Draft Pick (at least a 5th Rnd Pick; at most 3rd Rnd)

Pittsburgh get a proven veteran to help them in the playoff race. Looks like a good addition for the Penguins.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Boston

Mark Recchi (F)

+ 2nd Rnd Pick in 2010

Acquired

Calgary

Olli Jokinen (F)

+ 3rd Rnd Pick

Phoenix

Matthew Lombardi (D)

+ 1st Rnd Pick and

Olli Jokinen moves to colder and colder climates. Is Alaska next? A good move for Calgary as the Coyotes firesale continues.

Team A
Acquired
Team B
Acquired

Anaheim

Petteri Nokelainen (F)

Boston

Steve Montador (D)

Boston strengthens their D with the former Panther. Looks like a good deal for the Bruins and Steve gets a good chance to lift the Cup..

Player Acquired (from)

Pittsburgh
Craig Adams (Chicago)
Dallas
Brendan Morrison (re-entry waivers from Anaheim)
Toronto

Erik Reitz (Rangers)

Had hoped Florida would put in a claim for Morrison, but we’ll have to hope Jacques has some other aces up his sleeve...

Had hoped however, that Florida would try and sign Vermette…

Vancouver pressed hard last night, according to TFP, trying to sign Bo.

Talks continue today….

….as does the Panther talks with Philadelphia

TFP now reports that Jay is likely to be traded….

TSN says Phoenix are waiting for Florida to decide on Bo before trading Derek Morris. That would make it Philadelphia that has given the Cats a deal to ponder?

Talks are ongoing according to reports!

TSN are saying that Vancouver would be in the frontline for Bo and D Bieksa would be part of any deal.

TFP think the Flyers have given up on Bo and are focusing on Morris.

Looks like Bo will stay! Deadline has passed, but not all deals have been finalized and announced yet.

Kari Lehtonen and Marty Reasoner Atlanta’s GM Don Waddel is reportedly getting calls for Kari and Marty. The latter is expected to be moved soon.
Martin St. Louis It seems like the NY Rangers have inquired about St. Louis…
Derek Morris The Flyers are trying hard to sign either Morris or Bo, according to TFP. Montreal are also trying to get Morris. NY Rangers now interested too….
Mark Recchi According to TFP, NY Rangers may be interested in the Lightning player. Either way he’s expected to be dealt today.
Olli Jokinen Talks about Olli Jokinen moving from Phoenix to Calgary are heating up according to TSN. The Flames may be trying to acquire the former Panther and re-unite him with coach Mike Keenan.
Filip Kuba and Chris Neil Looks like they may get new contracts signed today with Ottawa after all. That would take two of the more talked about potential trades off the market. Filip Kuba signed to 3-year deal. Neil doesn’t look like he’ll sign; a trade may be in the pipeline. The Panthers were rumored to have acquired Neil, but now the deal is reportedly not done yet.

I think the big news for Florida is what didn’t happen- Washington didn’t upgrade its goalie situation. Washington is beatable with Theodore in goal and right now Florida is setup for a first round showdown with Washington. Not counting empty netters, Florida is +4 in goals in the 4 games they split with the Capitals.

Yes, I agree that this was bad news for the Caps. They would at the very least have needed a decent and experinced back-up goalie. Now they have put all their eggs in Theodore’s proverbial basket and that sure is a gamble! But with Montreal well in sight, I’m still hoping we can grab that fifth spot in the standings and match-up with Philly instead…
